Instructors who have an emergency situation or who are ill should follow this absence reporting procedure as soon as possible in order to cancel a class:

PROCEDURE #1 

To CANCEL class(es) and report your absence:

    • Go to the Class Cancellations page. You will be prompted for your Clark username and password.
    • Your classes will appear on the screen; follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen to cancel your class(es).
      Please note: the “Reason for Absence” box needs to be completed. This information is for administrative purposes only and is NOT sent to students

This process ensures that proper notification of the absence is sent to the students, staff, and the dean, as well as posted on Today’s Cancellations. (This page can be found from the main Clark website by selecting the Academics tab. On the Academics page, you will find the link under Class InformationToday’s Cancellations).

Substitutes, if available, may be used at Division Chair’s or Dean’s discretion when course continuity is an issue. Payments for all substitutes should be handled using formal payroll procedures. Make-up classes may be scheduled if appropriate to course continuity—work with your Division Chair or Dean to make arrangements for make-up classes, but remember that make-ups impinge on busy student schedules and may conflict with MTW availability.

Instructors who are missing class for a conference or professional development opportunity and plan to use a substitute, should request the substitute as part of the travel request. Claiming leave is not necessary for approved professional development activities.
